FIRST MOON STEP
Dr. Hartel has been a fan of the
manned space program since the days of the Gemini missions. He considers himself
extremely fortunate for having met all 12 of the men who walked on the moon. He
met his first Apollo astronaut (Dave Scott, commander of Apollo 15) at Chicago's
Adler Planetarium in 1979 when his models of the Lunar Excursion Module was
on display.
The first photo below
is FirstMoonStep's founder Dr.
William Hartel meeting Apollo 16 commander John Young after a speech in Scotland
in 2000. In the second photo is Dr. Hartel's son Eric shaking hands for the camera with Apollo 11 LM
pilot Buzz Aldrin at a book signing in Tucson, AZ, in 2007.
